Studio Apostoli designs the new SPA at the 5 Hotel Punta Molino in Ischia

Ischia, the largest of the Phlegraean Islands, enjoys a privileged geographical position and an incredible sea, making it a popular destination for international tourism. It is appreciated for the beauty of its landscape, its enchanting beaches, and its lush natural surroundings.

The island’s volcanic nature, shared with the nearby Phlegraean Fields, gives this land unique characteristics: the profile of Mount Epomeo, the highest peak on Ischia at 789 metres; the fumaroles that rise from the seabed; the dark sandy beaches; and above all, the thermal waters, a fundamental element of life on the island.

In this extraordinary context, Studio Apostoli has designed the new SPA at Hotel Punta Molino, a prestigious five-star hotel overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Naples and currently undergoing a complete refurbishment. The project aims to pay homage to the surrounding landscape and the island’s rich hydrothermal tradition.

The design philosophy is inspired by five “sub-worlds” (Greenery, Air, Earth, Fire, Water), inseparably linked yet independent, balanced, and harmonious. The forms used are sinuous and pure, as if shaped by nature, and are accompanied by an immaterial scenography of light, images, and visual glimpses created for meditation and dreaming.

The project by Studio Apostoli is guided by four main principles: to offer personalised treatments that meet the needs and desires of even the most demanding guests; to create a SPA that allows visitors to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty; to design a unique and high-quality environment, adopting an essential and refined approach aimed at an understated elegance; and to offer settings, experiences, and treatments that retrace the history and traditions of Ischia.

Spread over two levels, the layout guides guests through an experience that reconnects body and spirit with the natural elements. The ground floor hosts the Beauty & Retail area, featuring the reception, a boutique, and a welcome lounge with a herbal tea corner, all inspired by the realm of Greenery. The Beauty zone, comprising four treatment rooms (three single and one double), is designed around the element of Air.

The lower level houses the SPA, covering 464 square metres. Here, the Earth, Water, and Fire worlds are architecturally expressed through a range of spaces: the welcome zone, changing rooms, cryotherapy room, ice bathroom, relaxation lounge with herbal teas, SPA zone with hammam, large sauna, plunge pool, sensory and rinse showers, and finally, the indoor pool.

The SPA also extends outdoors, offering guests a complete experience in contact with nature. On the panoramic terrace on the second floor, there is an open-air area featuring a whirlpool tub, a couple’s massage space, and a relaxation zone with a breathtaking view of the Aragonese Castle.

In summary, this new project by Studio Apostoli seeks to re-establish the purest connection between human beings and nature. For this reason, the SPA at Hotel Punta Molino is as iconic as the island from which it originates: a symbol of an experience rooted in place and in its uniqueness.
