SSA: the association for sustainable SPAs

Associazione delle spa sostenibili

It was made official on 14 August 2020 The Sustainable Spa Association (SSA) and Alberto Apostoli is one of the experts in the wellness sector that led to its creation. Developed by a team of international wellness professionals, The SSA is a London-based organisation created to help spas improve their sustainability requirements, and is open to applications from wellness centres around the world who wish to reduce their environmental impact and consequently obtain a recognised certification based on the standards found.

Thanks to the guidelines offered by The Sustainable Spa Association and its partners, operators can have access to a specific and personalised assessment of their sustainable approach, constantly updated information on the subject and useful training to optimise the business management of the structures.

“As non-profit associations, we are committed to ensuring and promoting a constant monitoring function for the sustainable updating of the wellness industry through training, support and activities necessary to access credits and certifications. Furthermore, our desire is to clarify points and issues relating to environmental impact that may be complex or difficult for structures to understand. Each member, if properly guided, can contribute,” comments Lucy Brialey and Robert Cooper, Co-founders and Directors of The Sustainable Spa Association.

In recent years, consumers have been expecting an increasingly immersive experience in the world of spas and wellness is perceived as the result of a sum of elements, a real philosophy, also oriented towards respect for resources, consumption and not least the environment. In this regard, it is essential that the structures meet the expectations of their clients and the Sustainable Spa Association acts with this aim in mind.

“I firmly believe that the concepts of well-being and sustainability are inseparable, because human well-being cannot be separated from the health of the environment. When we integrate sustainable features into our spas, we achieve two goals: we help the health of our planet and we also educate our guests to do so. Sustainability is not a trend, but a necessity,” explains Alberto Apostoli, who concludes: “I am working hard to be an active part of some necessary transformations in the wellness industry: in addition to The Sustainable Spa Association, I recently collaborated on the creation of SA-FE (Health and Happiness), a certification of compliance that considers the psychological aspect of clients in collective settings and in a targeted manner in wellness centres. Having worked in the sector for more than twenty years now, I would like to make my experience available to accompany spas towards an effective and positive transformation”.
